School Chicago EMBA
GMAT 760
Work Experience 10 years
Industry Shipping / Oil and Gas
Function Operations Director

His Challenge
SP came to us with many years work experience and a 760 GMAT score.  He had managed 100s of people and was a very entrepreneurial employee at his shipping firm.  What were his challenges?  1. He was a little too senior for a regular MBA (he was 35 years old) 2. He found it difficult to communicate his strengths and achievements in a concise and persuasive format.

How We Helped
The first thing we did was to convince him on expanding his school list.  He was only keen on applying to Wharton and Stanford - but later on added EMBAs to his list.  He had the misconception that EMBAas are not as vigorous as the regular MBA programs (which is not the case).  We worked together on his essays for both Wharton and Chicago EMBA.  He had a rich background but very unclear career goals.  We spent a lot of time focusing on what he really wanted the MBA for - which eventually helped us decide on the right school.  In the end the result was perfect.  He was admitted to the Chicago School and SP could not be happier.

Function Senior Director

His Challenge

VA faced many challenges in preparing for the EMBA admission process. Top of which was his lack of free time. As a busy entrepreneur, he could not lose sight of his business, but faced huge challenges in focusing on GMAT and Admissions preparation. His career was a little unclear given his previous ventures which had not worked out and which were very different to what he was engaged in today.

How We Helped

First, we ticked the GMAT box, and VA, through in-depth personal coaching, and constant feedback, scored well on the GMAT. For his essays, we aligned his views based on the simple premise that he had diverse experience in many industries, with many lessons from failure and success, and he needed to synthesise these experiences into a world-leading management profile to take his business to the next level. His admission to the highly competitive INSEAD EMBA program was testament to how he got the message right.

Admit Zone Success - LBS Sloan EMBA

GMAT 600
Work Experience 8 years
Industry Advertising
Function Regional Director

His Challenge

SM was a senior executive in advertising in Singapore. He wanted to do an MBA in order to pick up the knowledge necessary to understand his client’s businesses. Also he was managing a few markets in South East Asia and needed to further develop his leadership style. He wanted to join a 1 year program to minimize the disruption to his career and spend some time in Europe. He was not sure if his advertising experiences would put him in good stead for an EMBA. Also his age put him in between an EMBA and the regular MBA - so there was some confusion there as well.

How We Helped

We helped him mainly on 2 fronts. First in terms of school selection. He wanted to join a vigorous and well respected 1 year program. Despite his young age (31) he was eligible for the LBA Sloan program as he had excellent (and senior) work experiences. Next, as an advertising expert, he did not need our help to come up with interesting stories from his life. However, he had issues focusing his stories to answer the MBA admissions doubts and concerns. We did a lot of work on tightening his presentation which eventually paid off. After 2 rounds of interviews, SM was admitted to the prestigious LBS Sloan Fellowship Program.
